Pet Exams and Wellness Care in Greenfield, WI
Since pets age very quickly, keeping them healthy requires bringing them in to see their veterinarian at least once a year for a complete checkup. Pet wellness care includes some of the most important treatments we can offer to help dogs and cats enjoy a happier, longer life.
At Crawford Animal Hospital, we customize our wellness programs to suit the specific needs of every individual patient. No two pets are the same, and we never subscribe to carbon copy veterinary medicine. Our veterinarians and supporting team members in Greenfield acknowledge and respect the qualities that make all pets different.
What's Included in a Pet Wellness Exam?
The primary wellness care services we offer include pet exams, core and lifestyle vaccinations, blood testing and parasite prevention. We tailor these services to fully accommodate every pet and maintain an ideal baseline of health.
There are several steps that we take during an exam to conduct a complete evaluation:
- A physical exam that involves checking the eyes, ears, teeth, skin, coat, joints, paws and tail for abnormal changes
- Checking the weight, heart rate and temperature
- Discussing and giving recommended vaccinations
- Testing the blood and stool for parasites
- Discussing exam findings and suggesting further treatments if necessary
Wellness plans are flexible and intended to keep pets healthy at every life stage. We can help you get started with your new puppy or kitten, adjust your adult dog or cat’s maintenance routine, or work with you to choose the best pain management plan for your senior pet.
Treating and Preventing Parasites
Parasites are a problem that requires ongoing prevention to keep your pet healthy. Before we give your pet preventatives, we will need to test their blood and stool. Parasite-transmitted diseases can be treated with medication and follow-up visits, but it is ideal to prevent them altogether.
Heartworm disease, spread by mosquitoes, can be very harmful to your pet’s health, or even be fatal if left untreated. Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis and other tick-borne diseases can also make your pet very sick. Our goal is to help you prevent these conditions entirely with a structured treatment schedule.
We welcome any questions you may have about our wellness services and pet exams. One of our veterinarians would be happy to meet with you to put together a wellness plan that meets all of your pet’s most essential health needs.
