HOW TO HELP YOUR PET RECOVER AT HOME

Orthopedic surgeries tend to be very involved for dogs and cats, often requiring at least 7-10 days of downtime and supervision. Here are several things we recommend to help your pet’s recovery go as smoothly as possible:

• Invest in an orthopedic dog bed for your pet so they can rest comfortably while they’re healing.
• Keep your pet’s incision site(s) clean and dry at all times to prevent infection.
• Check your pet’s incision site(s) daily for discoloration, seepage, swelling, and odor.
• To prevent your pet from licking or chewing at their sutures, get them an e-collar. Or, as an alternative, you can repurpose an old T-shirt or onesie into a garment for your pet that covers and protects their sutures.
• Keep your pet confined to where they are not running and jumping, and keep them on a leash when they go outside to do their business.
• Stay in touch with our team and let us know if there are any issues with your pet’s recovery. We will likely schedule a follow-up with you so we can assess your pet’s progress.
