Dr. Mitchell Bruckert, DVM

What is your educational and veterinary medicine background?

I did my pre-veterinary undergraduate work at UW-Green Bay (Go Phoenix!) and finished with my degree in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Environmental Sciences. After working in research for a few years, I got accepted  into Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, and moved to St. Kitts and Nevis to pursue veterinary medicine. I finished my preclinical studies there and finished my clinical studies at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine.

Why did you decide to become a veterinarian?

I have always loved the practice of medicine and animals, and felt that the best way for me to make a difference in the world was to become a veterinarian.

What is your most memorable moment as a vet?

Being able to travel to South Africa and learn about conservation medicine. While there I assisted in the relocation of several white rhinos. That was one of the coolest moments in my life, to be able to touch and find a safer home for a critically endangered species like the white rhino.

What are the best things you find about being a veterinarian?

I not only love being able to help animals feel better; I love to interact with people as well. Another thing I love is the technical side, being able to perform procedures and surgeries.

What are your special interests in the field of veterinary medicine?

I have a special interest in surgery, dentistry, neurology, and exotic animal medicine.

What is the most unusual pet you have helped treat?

Since I love exotics, I have helped treat several different kinds of animals. One of the most unusual pets I have ever interacted with was a kinkajou.
